Where things stand with top five uncommitted ATH in 2023 class

Top prospects are coming off the board all the time but it’s only April, which means a lot of elite recruits are still uncommitted. In this two-week series, we break down the top five uncommitted players at each position, closing today with athletes.

One of the best-looking prospects nationally regardless of position, M’Pemba projects as an edge rusher which provides even more value to his game. Where he ends up is still a little bit of a mystery but Notre Dame has been a program heavily mentioned in his recruitment. The Irish will be right there but many Southeast schools are getting way more involved with M’Pemba, who’s from St. Louis but is now playing at Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy.

Alabama is right there along with Georgia and others. There could be a long way to go until M’Pemba is ready to decide.

A track superstar – just spend some time on YouTube watching his clips, it’s fun – the supremely athletic Washington (D.C.) Archbishop Carroll prospect is still early in his recruitment but should be releasing a top 10 within weeks.

USC and Michigan should make the cut, Oklahoma is a program that interests Harbor a lot and then Ohio State, Penn State and Maryland have been mentioned before as well. Texas A&M and Texas would be two other potential landing spots for Harbor but things are still in the early stages and remain in flux.

Texas A&M is looking stronger and stronger for the Shiner, Texas, four-star athlete who could also play safety at the next level. The Aggies look the best but Brooks has always been very interested in Texas so the Longhorns certainly cannot be counted out just yet.

Brooks has also talked about Michigan and some other Midwest programs throughout his recruitment but this is very much shaping up to be in-state focused with the Aggies as the team to beat.

Early on, Harrison-Pilot talked mostly about leaving the state to play college football but as time has gone on it seems the Temple, Texas, standout is now leaning more toward staying closer to home.

Harrison-Pilot’s father played at Houston so the Cougars are definitely a serious consideration along with Texas, Oklahoma, Baylor, TCU and others. Harrison-Pilot is someone who prefers playing receiver but could be a great safety as well so there are still a lot of moving parts here.

Georgia is considered the front-runner for the Danvers (Mass.) St. John’s Prep standout who should play safety in college and the Bulldogs might be running away with this one. Aguero has always had interest in Georgia and the coaching staff’s aggressive style in recruiting him is making this possibly an easy call.

Miami is trying to make a run, LSU and Florida could be in there and Ohio State should be watched if things don’t work out in the South but Georgia has to love its positioning right now.
