Brought to market by Ray White Surry Hills agents Moira Verheijen and Shaun Stoker, the property was built circa 1885 for workers at the neighbouring Eveleigh Railway Workshops.
Prior to auction, 45 Thomas St Darlington saw over 58 groups walk through the property last weekend.
There were 15 registered bidders at the auction, with the final bids coming down to a three-way race.

According to Ms Verheijen, the sellers of the property were making a lifestyle change to Orange in central western NSW.
“This was a really strong campaign for us and there was a lot of interest in this particular property,” Ms Verheijen said.
“I put it down to a combination of the area being strong, a number of people in Darlington are trying to beat the last minute rush before interest rates go up.”
The home has undergone renovations over the years, blending the heritage facade that unfolds into the dual access block with secure parking at the rear.
Located near the University of Sydney, the home is near the arts precinct where galleries, cafes and studio spaces define the landscape. It is also a short walk away from Redfern station.

Elsewhere in the city, the sandstone property of 93 Pyrmont St did not pass in auction as it received no bids.
The investment home was located directly opposite the Star casino and had been advertised as an ideal opportunity for astute investors.
