An ‘appropriate course of action’ for parliament to be suspended

Institute of Public Affairs’ Dr Sherry Sufi says he thinks it is an “appropriate course of action” for parliament to be suspended for 14 days to allow members to reflect on the passing of Queen Elizabeth II.

“I think some of that critique … is also grounded in the presumption that voting on legislation in parliament is all that members of parliament do,” he told Sky News Australia.

“That’s not the case, there’s a whole host of other things that members of parliament do such as attending to electoral duties, developing policy.

“None of that is going to be affected, they’ll still be able to continue to work.”
